When COVID restrictions separated hospitalized patients from their families, connection became part of care. WellTab assembled paired tablets and custom video software so a device at the bedside could remain linked with a matching device in the family's home.
The system was designed around hospital conditions: automatic connection, minimal setup for nurses and patients, compatibility with changing Wi-Fi networks, privacy controls, and a technical support network able to troubleshoot at any hour. Volunteers configured, delivered, and supported thousands of devices, while cooperation with Hatzalah helped tablets begin their journey with patients entering the hospital.
CEO Joel Friedman describes WellTab as an audio-visual response to isolation. The project shows technology taking communal form when programmers, organizers, donors, emergency responders, and support volunteers build one dependable service around a human need.
